The Joy of the Lord

Psalm 147:11

the LORD delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love.

Psalm 149:1-4

1 Praise the Lord!  Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise in the assembly of the godly!
2 Let Israel be glad in his Maker; let the children of Zion rejoice in their King!
3 Let them praise his name with dancing, making melody to him with tambourine and lyre!
4 For the Lord takes pleasure in his people; he adorns the humble with salvation.

Nehemiah 8:10

Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

A few days ago I was talking with a dear friend about Joy.  I asked her, what does “The Joy of the Lord is my strength” really mean?  I mean, we hear it so often, but do we really understand it?  She looked me in the eye, and in the most loving, convincing tone, she said to me, “It is about God’s Joy in YOU!  He takes Joy in you!  He loves you!  He has made you for a specific purpose, and he delights in you!”  It was the first time I had someone use that verse in a context such as this.  It was encouraging.

I just want to make a quick note, reminding you that God delights in you.  He delights in those who obey Him, who seek Him, who take refuge in Him.  It is HIS JOY that is OUR STRENGTH.  God’s Joy in us- that is what gives us strength.  Do you get it?  I found it to be profound, yet so simple.  God loves you.  Be strong in the knowledge that you are loved.  And he delights in you.
